Challenge 4

Challenge 3 gave you insight on how to “wake up” so to speak. Now what? This feeling and alertness you are experiencing is sobriety.  Sobriety is a word that many people use to describe a state of mind that lack the influence of drugs or alcohol. Being sober minded is a double-edged sword, your mind is clear, experiencing every detail. Sometimes those details can be really hard to deal with. God didn’t intend for us to suffer, so it’s natural for us to seek out something to make us feel better in those vulnerable and week moments. It could come in the form of many things: alcohol, drugs, pornography, manipulative behavior, the list goes on and on. When we fall into those same habits, we are back at the beginning again, rinse, wash, repeat. Striving to live a life that is free from chains is proof that the Holy Spirit is working in your life. He’s your built-in barometer, letting you know that it’s time to change a certain behavior that otherwise keeps you from living that clear-minded sober life. It’s time to harness the strength inside of you.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Am I turning away from challenges in my life?

  • How am I viewed by my piers?

  • Am I actively hiding something I’m ashamed of?

  • Do you micromanage the people in your Life?

  • Most importantly, are you a boss or a leader?

The world has enough bosses; it’s time to be a leader. Leaders think clearly, with purpose. They imagine a desired outcome, then they execute. Leaders don’t bark orders; they lead by enlisting others to partner with them in reaching the goal(s).

This is your Challenge:

You are encouraged to imagine a life where it’s okay to ask for help. Use that imagination as navigation, your very own GPS. That’s it, it may seem simple but how often do you ask for help when something is bothering you? How often do you ask for help to complete a difficult task? How often do you turn to God and ask for help? This month you will ask someone for help each day with something that you would normally do by yourself. Each day as relationships blossom, ask God to give you the opportunity to humble yourself and strengthen yourself with Him. You will notice Christlike patterns in your life. After a month has passed, ask yourself the previously posed questions. If your answers have changed, it’s time to move on, if not, that’s okay, you can stay here as long as you need to.

Bonus challenge: volunteer 30 hours of your time this month, that’s one hour a day. Help someone else that otherwise couldn’t help themselves.

26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.- John 15:26-27
